The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has formally announced a 15% relaxation in syllabus for students of Classes 10, 11, and 12 appearing in the Annual Regular 2025 Examinations (October–November Session).

This decision was communicated through Notification No. F(Acad-C) Con/E-IX/XI/XII/25, dated 04-10-2025, issued by the Academic Division of JKBOSE.

The move has significant implications for students preparing for the upcoming JKBOSE Class 10 Annual Regular 2025, JKBOSE Class 11 Annual Regular 2025, and JKBOSE Class 12 Annual Regular 2025 examinations.


Applicability of JKBOSE 15% Syllabus Relaxation 2025

According to the official notification, the relaxation will apply to students of:

  • Class 10 Annual Regular 2025
  • Class 11 Annual Regular 2025
  • Class 12 Annual Regular 2025

from the following regions:

  • Kashmir Division (Soft Zone)
  • Jammu Province Winter Zone (Hard Zone)
  • District Leh and District Kargil (UT of Ladakh)

This means that the relaxation covers all students in Winter Zone areas and Kashmir Division, ensuring uniform applicability.


Key Points from the JKBOSE Notification (04-10-2025)

  • Students of Class 10th, 11th and 12th appearing in Annual Regular Oct–Nov 2025 examinations in Kashmir Division, Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division, and Ladakh shall attempt 85% of marks, which will be treated as 100% marks, thereby availing a 15% syllabus relaxation.
  • The question papers shall be set from the entire prescribed syllabus, but students will only need to attempt 85% of the total marks using the internal choices provided.
  • Each Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) will be evaluated individually.
  • The same evaluation pattern shall apply to the Grammar portion of language subjects.

How the JKBOSE 15% Syllabus Relaxation Will Be Applied

The notification specifies that the relaxation applies to the external examination component of each paper.

For Subjects with 20 Internal + 80 External Marks

  • Each subject carries 20 internal marks (school-based assessment) and 80 external marks (Board examination).
  • The 20 internal marks assessment remains unchanged.
  • The 15% relaxation applies only to the 80-mark external examination.
  • Students will attempt questions worth 68 marks (85% of 80), which will be treated as a full 80 marks.

For Subjects with 30 Internal + 70 External Marks

  • Some subjects carry 70 marks Board examination and 30 internal marks (20 practical + 10 teacher assessment).
  • The 30 internal marks component remains unchanged.
  • The 15% syllabus relaxation applies only to the 70-mark external examination.
  • Students will attempt questions worth 60 marks (85% of 70), which will be treated as the full 70 marks.

In both cases, the entire prescribed syllabus will form the basis of the paper, but students have the flexibility to attempt only 85% of the marks due to the internal choices provided.

The marking of MCQs and the Grammar portion in language papers will follow the same relaxed system.


What This Means for JKBOSE Class 10, 11 and 12 Students

The official notification confirms that:

  • All students must prepare for the complete syllabus, since question papers will be framed from it.
  • During the exam, they are required to attempt only 85% of the external marks.
  • Their attempted portion will be counted as 100% of the external paper marks (80 or 70, depending on the subject).
  • The internal assessment portion (20 or 30 marks) is not covered under this relaxation and will be evaluated fully.

Regions Covered Under JKBOSE Syllabus Relaxation 2025

The relaxation is valid for students of:

  • Kashmir Division (Soft Zone)
  • Jammu Province Winter Zone (Hard Zone)
  • District Leh and District Kargil of UT Ladakh

It does not extend to students in Summer Zone areas of Jammu Province, since their academic session follows a different schedule. However, there is possibility that a separate notification for them may get published too.
