JNV Selection Test Class 6 Syllabus 2026–27

What is the JNV Selection Test?

JNV Selection Test is a national-level entrance exam for Class 6. It’s held every year by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) for admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). These schools are run by the Government of India and provide free education, books, food, hostel, and everything else a student needs to study and grow.

The exam is meant mainly for rural and government school students studying in Class 5. If selected, students get full support till Class 12, free of cost.

Who Can Apply?

Any student who meets the following criteria can apply for the test. A student who:

  • Is studying in Class 5 during the current academic year
  • Is from a government or government-recognized school
  • Has not applied for the JNVST before
  • Is from the same district where the JNV is located

Exam Pattern – JNV Entrance Exam Class 6 (2026)

The exam is in offline mode (pen and paper). Students get an OMR sheet and a question booklet. It has three parts:

  • Mental Ability Test (MAT) – 40 Questions – 50 Marks – 60 minutes
  • Arithmetic Test – 20 Questions – 25 Marks – 30 minutes
  • Language Test – 20 Questions – 25 Marks – 30 minutes

Total: 80 Questions, 100 Marks, 2 hours

All questions are multiple choice. Each correct answer gives 1.25 marks.

There is “No Negative” marking.

The exam is not tough, but it needs practice. If you’re studying in Class 5 and understand your school books well, you can easily crack it with regular revision.

Qualifying Marks – JNV Class 6 (2026-27)

To get selected, you must clear each section separately. This is very important. Even if your total score is good, if you fail one part, you’ll be out.

Here’s the minimum you must get:

  • Mental Ability – 14 marks
  • Arithmetic – 7 marks
  • Language – 7 marks

If you fail even one of these, you won’t be shortlisted. So give equal time to all three. Also remember, the selection is purely merit based.

Medium of the Exam

You can choose the exam language while filling the online form. It can be:

  • Hindi
  • English
  • Urdu
  • Bengali
  • Marathi
  • Tamil
  • Telugu
  • Malayalam
  • Punjabi
  • And others, depending on your state

Once selected, you cannot change the language later. The question paper and OMR sheet will be given in the same language you choose.

What Is the OMR Sheet?

You will be given an OMR sheet in the exam. It is a special answer sheet where you fill bubbles to mark the correct answer.

  • Use blue or black ballpoint pen only
  • Don’t use pencil, whitener, or ink remover
  • Fill only one circle for each question
  • Once filled, you cannot change the answer
  • Do not fold or damage the sheet

Bring your admit card, a recent photo, and ID proof (like Aadhaar or residence certificate) to the exam center.

Extra Time for Divyang (Disabled) Students

Students with disability (Divyang) will get 40 minutes of extra time. This is allowed for:

  • Blind students
  • Students with hearing problem
  • Students with physical disabilities
  • Dwarfism
  • Acid attack survivors

You will need to bring a valid disability certificate at the time of exam or admission.

JNV Selection Test Class 6 Syllabus 2026–27

Language Test | 20 Questions | 25 Marks | 30 Minutes

This part checks your understanding of short passages.
